Kidditch is a kid form of the Nationally recognized sport Quidditch derived from the popular books and film of Harry Potter. The sport is similar to Dodgeball and Rugby. There are 3 different game balls and the goal is to score by throwing the Quaffle (partially deflated volleyball) through the opposing team's goals (3 hoops 4-6ft off the ground). There are also two Bludgers (Dodgballs) that can be thrown in order to temporarily suspend a player if they are hit in which case they must drop the Quaffle and go back to their goal line before re-entering play. The snitch (tennis ball inside a sock attached to a player similar to flag football flags) enters play after a certain number of points are achieved or a time limit is reached. If the snitch is captured it catapults the score of that team by 120pts which in most cases could end the game. The game is played all while riding a broom (PVC with foam bristles). This sport is played as a college Sport all over the world. They even host their own world cup in Canada each yeah as well as host nationals in Florida. If you want more information or to watch the sport in action there are several great YouTube videos of games being played. Sign ups begin Friday, March 25th and end Friday, April 29th. We will host a clinic on Tuesday, May 10th to teach the sport to the teams and coaches. The games will begin the following week and will occur on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. There will be 4 games. Each child will receive a shirt and an opportunity to purchase individual or team photos from Blunk's. If you have any questions please call Brooke Wheelock at Acme.
